R.I.P. Kak Channthy, Feb. 26, 1980 - Mar. 20, 2018. Queen of the Cambodian Rock Revival....

Notes on two songs from the album taken from their respective sources:

"Fever"

Channthy was still learning English so it was a bit of an exercise for her in pronunciation but her accent and inflections are gorgeous! Best of all, her original 'scat' parts in Khmer are brilliant... instead of it being a song about star-cross lovers Romeo and Juliet or Captain Smith and Pocahontas, Channthy's Fever becomes a Khmer Ramayana fable and her characters are the White Monkey Hanuman and mermaid Srey Ma Cha. Now that's damn fine cha cha! indeed.

"Lullaby for Makara"

Channthy's beautiful song "Lullabay for Makara," and a video filmed during a visit to her homeland in Prey Veng Province. This deeply moving song was recorded by Channthy for her son, the 13 year old child she has left behind, who needs us to give all the support we can so he can grow up to be the wonderful young man with all the opportunities in life that his mother would have wished for and so sadly wont be with us to see for herself.

If interested, the Rock Cambodia organization is advertised on the official CSP website (cambodianspaceproject.org). It is a Cambodian non-government organization dedicated for supporting LGBT+ rights in Cambodia. RoCK works closely with LGBT communities and respective local authorities across the country to ensure long-term protection and support of equal rights and acceptance for LGBT people and their families.
