Intro 01:41

Backwards voice: I bathe in it when I come to the farm and it is too hot But I never drink the water. I know this is where the bodies were buried and left, So I don't dare drink it Po Chean: I followed my buffalo there, They had run away so I followed them, I didn't know people had been killed there. When I got there I saw bodies everywhere, They were tied together... Yong Sok Nheb: He told me he was going off to study. I said, "You should go, father!" I thought he would come back the next day, But he never came back And in a few days the bodies were piling up at Tuol Po Chrey Khmer Rouge soldier: About 7am we heard the sounds of trucks approaching When the trucks got close they announced, "Special Unit, stand-by to carry out the Plan" Pol Pot: Please understand, with my high level of work, I only made decisions concerning the very important people. These men joined and led the Democratic Kampuchea Party, But they weren’t real members. I…. don’t remember everything…. But I have documents to prove the plot. I came to join the revolution, Not to kill the Cambodian people. So, as far as my conscience and my mission were concerned, There was no problem. Nuon Chea: I have no regrets.
3.
Loung Ung: Khmer people are very strong, it has always been in us We have always been strong people, and circumstances sometimes make us victims of the moment But we have to recognize that we have the power to rewrite our own path, our own history... Laura Mam: This movement is unique in Cambodia, no one else, no other country has an original music movement, everybody just has normal music And we have an original music movement that is starting to speak about things beyond what we talk about every single day (love) So, it's my belief, these numbers, it's these things that have me believing that Cambodia is on the verge of another golden music period
4.
Left Channel 1 (Margaret Thatcher): Some of the Khmer Rouge of course are very different. I think that there are probably two parts to the Khmer Rouge, there're those who supported Pol Pot and then there's a much, much more reasonable grouping within that title. Right Channel 1 (Richard Nixon): If it doesn't work psychologically, I'll keep the God damn thing on and lose the election if necessary, but we'll just level Hanoi, I mean level it. Left Channel 2 (Same): ...so you'll find that the more reasonable ones of the Khmer Rouge will have to play some part in the future government, but only a minority part. Right Channel 2 (John Pilger): Ministers from Britain and other Western governments actually reinforce Cambodia's isolation by treating the Khmer Rouge as reasonable people who'll have to play some part in a future Cambodian government. A term was invented to help cover Western deceit, the term is "comprehensive settlement." Left Channel 3 (Same): ...so we don't give directly at the moment to the people in Cambodia, through their government, because we don't recognize their government, but we give whenever there's a program run by some of the people who we know will be certain the money gets to the people. Right Channel 3 News Reporter: (I'm wondering if you, in light of what) we now know, that there were 15 months of bombing of Cambodia previous to your statement, whether you owe an apology to the American people? Richard Nixon: Certainly not, and certainly not to the Cambodian people.

Right Channel 1 (Oh! Phnom Penh): During the three years we were apart I missed you and my heart suffered every day, Because the enemy cut off the affection between you and me When I was forced to leave you, anger burnt in my heart And compelled me to avenge (The sufferings you bore) to show my faithfulness to you. Phnom Penh, our beloved city, In spite of the three years of hardship, You managed to preserve our nation’s bright history Of courage and represent the soul of Kampuchea, Which was once one of the world’s glorious empires You prevented the disappearance of Cambodia, The descendant of the majestic Angkor empire Oh, the soul of the Khmer nation lives on and Oh, is inspire by the majestic Angkor empire Oh, Phnom Penh, now we are reunited and You are relieved from bereavement Oh, Phnom Penh, our nation’s heart and soul Left Channel 1 (Twilight): Do your Royal Highness and His gracious wife still remember the Maharani of Rajputana? Three years ago, you were so kind to invite my husband and me to visit your beautiful country and its temples of Angkor. Unfortunately, it was impossible for us to honor this invitation at the time. My husband was becoming weaker and weaker with old age, and I had to take care of his health; he left me after three sad years. My son finished his studies and now is in charge of the Family’s affairs, and that’s why I am able to visit your wonderful Kingdom. I arrived in Phnom Penh yesterday, and heard Your Highness just left the Royal Khmer Armed Forces and is now living in Siem Reap. I intend to drive there tomorrow, and hope to meet you and your wife. I hope this will not interfere with your plans as I shall pay you a visit. I send you this letter today by air-mail. Please accept, dear-friends, Maya Maharani of Rajputana Left Channel 2 (I Shall Never See You Again, Oh, My Beloved Kampuchea): Madame, the towns and provinces of Kampuchea-Krom annexed by Amna Are Khmer and legally belong to Kampuchea My motherland, and her King have done nothing against Amna They have always shown you a lot of friendship I beg your Majesties not to annex Kampuchea-Krom I beg you to cease bleeding our two peoples, Which could live in peace and friendship Through mutual respect of their legal boundaries and independence Left Channel 3 (Nokor Reach): May the Angels save our king Granting him happiness and prosperity We, his servants, wish to refuge under his completeness Of sovereign's line, ones being to build temples Reigning over old Khmer's glorious land. Temples of stone, hidden amid forests Bethought of the mighty great kingdom triumphs Khmer race stands tough and solid as eternal stone We pray for the best upon Cambodia's destiny A grand nation've ever occurred for. Dharma risen, up from monasteries Chant with joy, commemorate of Buddhism Let us be faithful to our ancestors' belief Assuredly, Angels will grant its bounty Toward Khmer's, the grand nation.

Got on board a westbound seven... forty-seven Didn't think before, deciding what to do All that talk of opportunities TV breaks and movies... rang true... it sure rang true. Seems it never rains in southern California Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before It never rains in California But girl, don't they warn ya It pours... man, it pours. Out of work, I'm out of my head Out of self-respect, I'm out of bread I'm underloved, I'm underfed, and I wanna go home It never rains in California, But girl don't they warn ya... It pours... man, it pours [Instrumental Interlude] Will you tell the folks back home... I nearly made it Had offers, but don't know which one to take Please, don't tell 'em how you found me Don't tell 'em how you found me Gimme a break... give me a break Seems it never rains in southern California Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before It never rains in California But girl, don't they warn ya It pours... man, it pours. Seems it never rains in southern California Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before It never rains in California But girl, don't they warn ya It pours... man, it pours.

Love ultimately triumphs over hate, but innocence can never be regained once it is lost.

Every song that is included herein has been "ethically sourced" (meaning nearly all samples pertain to the subject matter that is on display). It is a labor of love and should stand as a testament to those victims and unheard voices which have seen their homelands, of discussion in this album and elsewhere in the world, ravaged by war with senseless violence committed by those in power who wish for nothing more than to deny involvement and profit off of the suffering of others.

I started work on this album roughly a year and a half prior to its release and worked on it sporadically until the end of 2021...

Now that I am finally at the end of the road, I am relieved and also very much hoping that people will hear this message and not simply listen to it. Talking to survivors of such a tragic event is not only informative but continues to help give others the necessary platform they need in order to speak truth to power.

The proceeds from the single released last August "ញុំមិនបានដឹងទេ (I Didn't Know)," as well as this album "Besach's Lament," were matched 100% and donated to the Children's Improvement Organization (CIO) in Cambodia. Feel free to see their mission statement on their website here:
